Fellow Citizens,

At We the People Lake Travis, we strongly believe in the vital role of Christians in the political sphere, especially as we approach the upcoming election.

In a yesterday’s sermon (video link below) titled “Red, White & You”, Pastor Randy Phillips from Life Family Church in Austin emphasized the critical role of voting as a Christian duty. He pointed out that throughout the Bible, we see figures of faith engaging with the political authorities of their time—Moses confronting Pharaoh, Esther approaches the King, and Jesus navigating governmental questions with Jewish Sadducee’s  (Matthew 22:15-22). Phillips argued that when godly leaders remain silent, a godless culture fills the void, highlighting the necessity for Christians to participate actively in the political process.

Pastor Phillips articulated the importance of the three institutions God established: family, church, and government. He referenced Romans 13:1, underscoring that governing authorities are ordained by God. Each institution has its designated role—families nurture and raise children, churches advance the kingdom of God, and governments maintain order and provide essential services. When any institution steps outside its lane, it disrupts the intended harmony. He emphasized that the church should address political issues without endorsing specific candidates, urging Christians to influence government through informed voting.

As we approach the 2024 general election day, it is crucial for Christians to recognize their God-mandated responsibility to vote. Pastor Phillips pointed out that approximately 32 million Christians may abstain from voting, which he described as a disservice to those who fought and died for our right to participate in the electoral process. He encouraged believers to seek candidates whose policies reflect their Christian convictions rather than basing decisions solely on personalities. He reiterates numerous times that Jesus is not on the ballot and that both candidates are flawed.

We the People | Lake Travis strongly encourages that you watch and share this important message with your Christian acquaintances, friends, and family. It’s essential for each of us to engage in this critical moment and ensure our voices are heard. Your responsibility extends beyond your own vote; it’s vital to inspire those around you to fulfill their civic duty and contribute to shaping a government that aligns with our shared values.
