DESCRIPTION:A couple issues coming out at LTISD that most parents are not aware of… \nWe started a campaign in January to bring awareness to the explicit books in the LTISD libraries. The Board put the book review process on the agenda in February and March. The District wrote new policies to address parent and Board concerns\, however the process is long and committees making the decisions about whether to keep the books are decided by the District and led by the District. \nSexually explicit and trans affirming books are being retained and re-shelved into our schools. The law is on the side of protecting Children… Why is LT administration not? \nAlso… The LTISD board meeting is always less taxpayer/voter friendly. The board always votes unanimously (except one time on masks) and never listens to the taxpayer/voters. \nLTISD approved an athletic bond for November 2023. The District will pay Travis County approximately $40K to place this one item on our ballot. The bond ask is $50M more than the failed bond in 2022. Instead of listening to the voters and re-evaluating the gold-plated athletic spend\, the District is bringing the voters a bigger ask. \nThe District will spend another $100K convincing the voters that we were wrong and they are right. We will go into deeper debt while our schools are failing\, enrollment is dropping\, teachers are leaving\, busses aren’t running and classroom materials persuade children to question their gender and hate their country. \nPlease start talking to your neighbors about our November election. Voter turnout will be very low\, because there will be no candidate races on the ballot. We must turnout and tell the District AGAIN to bring us a better bond proposal.

We encourage voters to educate themselves and to know your vote. \nThis year we have two candidate forums for Lake Travis ISD School Board and the Lakeway City Council. The decision was made based on venue availability\, moderator availability\, timekeeper availability\, Chamber staff availability\, and in consideration of the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce event calendar. The Chamber will not host a candidate forum for uncontested races. \nAdvocacy is of utmost importance to the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce\, the largest business association in the greater Lake Travis area. We represent nearly 400 members and thousands of jobs through our membership. Chambers of Commerce have authority under state and federal law to represent our members in public policy debates. We may lobby and take positions on actual or proposed legislation. Chambers may legally endorse candidates for public office and/or ballot propositions. \nThe Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce has historically not endorsed political candidates and will not be using this forum to do so.

SUMMARY:LTISD Monthly School Board Meeting
DESCRIPTION:LTISD Update\nOn June 3rd there was a special budget meeting. \n\nProjecting a $4M deficit. (This is after LTISD cut the tax rate last year in order to persuade voters to vote for the bond and convince us the bond was NOT a tax increase)\nAt a 94.5 attendance\, there was a discussion to increase attendance as a way of increasing the money for the budget because the state pays for attendance.\nThe District projects no increase in class size.\nLots of discussion about a recapture (Robinhood) initiative. There is no way of knowing where the money really goes. They resent it. Called the ‘hidden state tax’. Feeling of mistrust of state government.  (The Republican party added a plank to the platform this year to audit Robinhood in an effort to hold the state government accountable.) \nA mention of mobilizing parents in some way to support a meeting at the capital about funding that should be increased for education.\nCustodial staff referred to as ‘those people’ who cannot afford to live in the area.\n1% raise for teachers\, starting teacher $57\,000.\nDr. Davis wanted a 2% raise to make sure we can keep our teachers. Most employees live out of district because of the cost of living in Lake Travis. After much discussion a proposal was written to go ahead with 1% raise but if they get more money from the state\, they would go up to 2 % possibly in a split raise. (We are for raising teacher pay\, but not administrative pay.)\n Adding Additional Instructional coaches next year.\nAdding guidance and other counselors.\nAdding more safety personnel.\nAdding Safety Coordinator position.\nFewer substitutes next year.\n\n***In addition\, LTISD has hired a forensic accountant to specifically investigate allegations of misappropriation of funds alleged in recent open record requests.  This is great news!

DESCRIPTION:Parents and Taxpayers… Let your voice be heard before the next SB meeting!\nTexas Senate Bill 13: Overview and Implementation\nSenate Bill 13 (SB 13) is a piece of legislation passed during the 89th Texas Legislature (2025–2026) that imposes new requirements on school libraries\, particularly concerning the acquisition and review of library materials. The bill focuses on increasing transparency and parental oversight in the selection of books and other resources available to students. \nThe law requires school districts to adopt policies for the acquisition and removal of library materials that align with state guidelines. \nSenate Bill 13 Public School Requirements from the TEA\nhttps://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/school-boards/sb13-guidance.pdf \n  \n\n\n\n\nThe Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC) was established by the Board of Trustees to ensure that school libraries provide strong collections that support student achievement\, meet state standards\, and reflect community expectations. Meeting at least twice each year\, the SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement\, including donated titles. The Board reviews these recommendations\, considers any proposed changes\, and makes the final decision to approve or reject the materials. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote\, the proposed list is made publicly available for parents and community members to review. The SLAC also recommends procedures for handling challenges to library materials and reviews challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.
